Approved Medical Transcription Education Programs Minimize

The following medical transcription programs have been approved by the Approval Committee for Certificate Programs (ACCP), a joint committee established by AHDI and AHIMA for certifying and approving medical transcription education programs. We congratulate each of these schools for setting a standard of excellence in medical transcription education.

Approval is an ongoing process. Please check back regularly, as the list is updated quarterly.

ACCP approval is not the equivalent of a guarantee. Consumers are responsible for their own research and should speak to the schools with any questions or concerns. Funding and other noted attributes may change without notice.

CTC is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award associate degrees and certificates of completion. With its main campus in Killeen, Texas, and over 100 other locations around the world, Central Texas College has traditionally served mobile military personnel and their family members, and offers 17 degree and 13 certificate programs that are fully online. With over 25 years experience in training medical secretaries and transcriptionists in a self-paced environment, Central Texas College launched a totally new online Medical Transcription Certificate program in January 2007. This new certificate offers college level credit courses featuring the latest innovations in transcription techniques and distance learning technology. Dakota College at Bottineau is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and governed by the seven member North Dakota State Board of Higher Education. Dakota College at Bottineau was founded in 1906 and located in Bottineau, a city of 2,600 residents, and is located 14 miles from the Canadian border and is equal distance from the state’s east and west borders. Our affiliate university, Minot State University, is located just minutes from the Minot Air Force Base. Everett Community College (EvCC) (www.everettcc.edu/medtrans) offers a leading-edge medical transcription program that prepares you for competitive employment as an entry-level MT. Utilizing Career Step’s courseware augmented with supplementary material developed by a lead instructor with over 20 years of experience in the industry, our 100% distance education curriculum allows you to train from home.
In three academic quarters (nine months), you can earn 42 college credits and a Medical Transcription Certificate. The program adviser and staff are dedicated to helping you through each step of the financial aid application and/or enrollment process. Exact-Med/United Tribes Transcription Training (Exact-Med) (www.exactmed.com/) is unique in that it offers training in Acute Care dictation (Level 4) in an online, open enrollment, competency based type of setting. Courses begin monthly and each student will progress through the program at a pace that is comfortable for them. The benefit to students is that they remain in the program until they have reached the industry standards of 98% accuracy. At that time, the student is assisted in finding home-based employment. Richland Community College's (www.richland.edu/programs/ot/medtrans) Medical Transcription certificate and associate degree programs provide students with the foundational skills and hands-on experience to translate medical dictation into printed formats. Coursework focuses on the skills needed to transcribe healthcare records in an accurate and timely manner, including history and physicals, consultations, operative reports, discharge summaries, radiology reports, pathology reports, and chart notes. Students pursuing the associate's degree are given the opportunity to work on-the-job in a hospital, doctor's office, or transcription company and receive more hands-on experience in the medical transcription field.
Recognizing the demands placed on today's working adult student, Richland provides online, hybrid, and traditional site-based instruction to allow maximum flexibility to complete coursework and fulfill personal responsibilities. Employment opportunities exist in a variety of healthcare settings, including hospitals, clinics, doctors’ offices, and medical transcription companies. The Medical Transcription program is one of 14 Allied Health Science Programs offered by Roane State. Full-time students may complete the program in two to three semesters (9 to 12 months). Our program is comprehensive, providing the student with the necessary practice, knowledge, and expertise to become a successful medical transcriptionist. Seminole Community College’s Medical Transcription Program (www.scc-fl.edu/medicaltran/) is among the oldest in the nation and the first in Florida to receive ACCP program approval. Available in on-line and on-campus formats, Seminole’s 40-college-credit certificate is among the most comprehensive MT curriculum in the nation. Because SCC’s program has been around so long – since 1988 – many of its graduates have become industry leaders who are now in a position to hire new SCC graduates. The program’s faculty members are experienced MTs who are well connected with the industry, and its graduates are sought after by health-care organizations and services nationwide. Winter Park Tech’s Medical Transcription program (http://www.wpt.ocps.net/ ) created in 1999, has been approved by the Council on Occupational Education (COE) and is accredited by that agency and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). This transcription program has a web-based online format that gives students the freedom of 24/7 access with ongoing personal instructor feedback. The program instructor is an experienced CMT who has been recognized as an “AHDI Fellow,” the highest credential in the industry’s professional organization. In addition, an advisory board consisting of industry professionals continually reviews the program curriculum to make sure industry standards are maintained and provides information regarding current industry trends to ensure graduates are successfully prepared to achieve their career goals.
